Neil L. Weinreb is a Florida attorney with more than twenty years of experience practicing family law, with a particular focus on child support, paternity, parenting plans, and enforcement proceedings. Over the course of his career, he has represented both parents seeking child support and parents defending against support claims, providing him with a broad perspective on how Florida’s child support system operates in both administrative proceedings and the circuit courts.

Mr. Weinreb has also been involved in significant appellate litigation concerning Florida’s child support enforcement system. He represented the petitioner in Crawford v. Department of Revenue, 219 So. 3d 1172 (Fla. 1st DCA 2017), an important case decided by the Florida First District Court of Appeal. The case addressed practices in which child support hearing officers were ordering the arrest of individuals appearing in enforcement proceedings for alleged nonpayment of child support. The decision highlighted serious concerns about the lack of legal authority required for such arrests and the resulting consequences, including situations in which individuals were placed in jail without the procedural protections required by law. The practice also had a chilling effect on many individuals who might otherwise have appeared in court to defend themselves against allegations of nonpayment.

The case drew significant public attention and was featured on the front page of the Florida Times-Union on May 30, 2017, bringing broader awareness to issues within the child support enforcement system.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Weinreb has been involved in legal education and public outreach. He served as an adjunct professor teaching law to paralegal students at Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida, and he hosted a legal radio program titled “Neil’s Legal Hour,” which was broadcast online and discussed a variety of legal topics affecting the public.
